Définitions vagues : Anthologie de l'eau rassemble les vidéos d'eau que je tourne depuis 2014 dans les régions nordiques et arctiques. Le projet compte aujourd'hui des centaines de captations et continue de s'étendre.
Chaque vidéo a sa fiche, sur papier et dans un catalogue numérique : la date, le lieu, l'état de l'eau, et une note écrite sur le moment. La fiche est l'unité du projet. Elle permet de retrouver une eau précise, un jour précis, et de la mettre à côté d'une autre.
Filmer et écrire sur l'eau, c'est lui faire de la place, un acte méditatif qui nous connecte aux détails de la nature et à toutes ces eaux qui coulent sans cesse dans le monde, même quand nous ne les voyons pas. C'est aussi une invitation à naviguer à travers elle, à la percevoir depuis un bateau ou d'une rive, comme si l'on lisait un journal intime ou un carnet de voyage.
À travers cette anthologie, je vise à partager cette démarche, à répertorier les images de l'eau qui m'ont particulièrement émue à des moments précis de mon histoire, à une époque où l'environnement est en pleine mutation.
La collection couvre pour l'instant le fleuve et le golfe du Saint-Laurent, la Côte-Nord, l'île d'Anticosti, le Saguenay, Terre-Neuve, la Nouvelle-Écosse, l’Islande et l’archipel du Svalbard. Elle s'étend une expédition à la fois.
Prochaines expéditions : le Yukon cet été, la Côte-Nord à l'automne, la Norvège au printemps prochain.
Définitions vagues : Anthologie de l'eau gathers the videos of water I have been filming since 2014 in northern and Arctic regions. The project now holds hundreds of recordings and keeps growing.
Each video has its own entry, on paper and in a digital catalogue: the date, the place, the state of the water, and a note written on site. The entry is the unit of the project. It lets me find one particular water on one particular day, and set it beside another.
Filming and writing about water is a way of making room for it, a meditative act that connects us to the details of nature and to all the waters running through the world, even when we do not see them. It is also an invitation to travel through it, to look at it from a boat or from a shore, the way one reads a private journal or a travel notebook.
With this anthology I want to share that way of looking, and to gather the images of water that moved me at precise moments of my life, at a time when the environment is changing profoundly.
The collection currently covers the St. Lawrence River and Gulf, the Côte-Nord, Anticosti Island, the Saguenay, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Iceland and the Svalbard archipelago. It grows one expedition at a time.
Upcoming expeditions: Yukon this summer, the Côte-Nord in the fall, Norway next spring.
